Presentation

The trust that the Executive Committee of the IAEC has given us honors and makes us responsible. And at the same time it represents recognition of a long work. The constant and tenacious work, often little visible, of many people who were and are convinced of the utopia towards which they want to advance.

We are preparing a model for dialogue with participants. A model with questions, comments and contributions open to the participation of each congressman and that goes beyond the exclusive days of the Congress celebration.

This means that we would like you to come "well-thought out" and with your bags full of questions.

For our organization, congresses are a time to face old and new challenges and define new strategies.

They are the moment for knowledge, for dialogue.
To share: ideas, projects and programs.
These are moments of connection.
To identify ourselves with certain principles and values.
To feel like we are part of an organization.
And to know and recognize that together we can do better.
Congresses express and show the world who we are, what we want, what moves us.
A magnificent space for meeting and exchange.

Granollers has extensive experience in preparing meetings and exchanges.

In fact, the most popular of the gatherings began almost a thousand years ago and is repeated every week of the year. Our market has been documented since the year 1040.
This means that the squares and streets of Granollers every Thursday (with very few exceptions) have been the space that has welcomed and continues to welcome buyers and sellers every week.
People who came from all over brought and still bring their goods to sell, and buyers who came and come to Granollers every week to buy.

In 2026 we will be able to host a large market. A market of knowledge, ideas, words, experiences and projects.
We will be in a position to host the 18th International Congress of Educating Cities. We have the support of other administrations, other cities and many institutions in our country.
We have the necessary spaces and conditions. And we have the desire and the desire, very eager to do it. Very eager to welcome them to Granollers.

The entire city will be prepared so that all the planned activities can be carried out.

A long career of many people who have long built a city model where education is absolutely relevant. Together they have generated a culture, a way of doing things, that is commendable. The view of an educating city is today present in practically all political, social, cultural and economic areas of the city and naturally in the design of its public spaces. And this view is the heritage of the whole, the whole city.

1877

This is how, for example, the Friends of the Union Choral Association was founded in 1877. This association was not born solely with a desire to entertain the city's young people, but rather had a profound educational vocation in its founding purpose.

1920

In 1920, faced with the need to have well-trained technical personnel, a group of businessmen from the city created the Municipal Work School, a vocational training school.

1928

The Hiking Group was created in 1928. Its founders understood the entity as a space for knowledge, for science, for discovery and scientific research, for the appreciation of one's own territory and knowledge of its traditions and customs.

Also in 1928, the Municipal School of Music was created, the embryo of the current Conservatory.

1990

Granollers is already actively participating, with
the presentation of various experiences, at the first Congress held in Barcelona in 1990.

1994

In 1994, when the International Association was created, Granollers formalized its membership as an active and responsible member.

Since then, Granollers has actively participated in international congresses, state meetings and also in various thematic networks of the
Spanish network.

2007

From 2007 to 2011 we led the network: “Educating City and Culture of Peace” of the Spanish network

In 2007 we were chosen by the Assembly of the Spanish Network (RECE) to lead its coordination and to be the headquarters of the ninth meeting to be held in 2009.

2008

In 2008, we were elected at the Congress of Sao Paulo as members of the Executive Committee. And we have been renewing the trust of this Assembly successively in the years: 2012, 2016 and 2022.

2009

We will organize the
IX State Meeting
of the Network of
Spanish cities

2010

In 2010, the city's second Strategic Plan defined its vision for the future with the following three words: "Granollers, an educating city"

2017

In 2017 we will host the Association Assembly in Granollers.
Delegates from 75 cities and 12 countries participated.

2021

We assume the Treasury of the International Association

2023

Meeting of the RECE Monitoring Committee in Granollers.

Since October 2023 we coordinate the Network
Theme of the Spanish state network: “Education and culture:
strategies for city/community building and
development of critical and creative citizenship"
