The organisation of the 18th International Congress of Educating Cities is locating 500 neighbours from Granollers, representing the diversity of its 65,346 inhabitants. The project is called «... and what if we were 500?» the meeting of these neighbours will be held on the’11 April in the morning Municipal Parquet Pavilion.

The selection of these 500 inhabitants has been made through a Statistical work developed by the Council itself. From this document, we are looking for, for each of the 17 city districts, the appropriate proportions of participants based on sex, age, origin, and educational level.

This social experiment aims to show and recognise the diversity What is happening today in Granollers. In fact, the aim is for the project to become a meeting point for groups of’diverse origins even though they often live side-by-side, they are part of the same city.

The project «...and what if we were 500?» is linked to the XVIII International Congress of Educating Cities, as the Social cohesion of the cities will be one of the Topics to be discussed from 26 to 29 May in Granollers. With this initiative, the aim is to move from reflection to action in order to create community and sense of belonging in the city.

On 11 April, it is planned that group dynamics among the participants, with the aim of starting to intersperse them from different questions. The meeting will also have a second part, to generate Conversation spaces among the 500 neighbours.

A city project

«... and what if we were 500?» is one of four city projects being carried out to mark the XVIII International Congress of Educating Cities. The other projects are the Children and Adolescents Congress i The Humanae, which are already being carried out in more than twenty schools and institutes in the region; and «Out of place art» What will be done in April.

In addition to the four days the International Congress of Educating Cities will last, Granollers is working to create city projects that engaging the entire citizenry. All of them follow the line of strengthening the community, critical thinking and creativity, the three pillars on which the Congress will focus.
