The first meeting from the project «... and what if we were 500?» has managed this Saturday, at the Municipal Sports Hall El Parquet, to bring together different people of the entire city of Granollers. With this objective in mind, a day has been experienced which was designed for Break down the walls that separate us based on age, neighbourhood, or cultural origin.
The project, which is intended to be repeated on future occasions, is linked to the XVIII International Congress of Educating Cities, which will be held in Granollers from 26th to 29th May, and which will focus precisely on the creation of community and a sense of belonging in cities.
The day began with a group dynamics Inside the Parquet, which served to help the participants break the ice. The host of the event, entertainer Pep Callau, posed questions, which, if answered affirmatively, were used to gather attendees in the middle of the floor.
The questions in this exercise were intended to show that, beyond our differences, very diverse people have common ground that transcends Labels and prejudice. This is why, in some cases, apparently trivial questions were formulated alongside other, more profound questions related to identity and community.
In the second part of the day, participants went outside the Parquet, where tables were set up, each with a facilitator. These tables were specifically put together to ensure they had diverse members in terms of age, neighbourhood, or origin. This is because the spirit of these dialogue tables is to generate unlikely conversations between different people.
At the tables, discussions have arisen around different questions, which initially served as icebreakers for the attendees. The remaining questions have allowed for topics related to the three main pillars of the 18th International Congress of Educating Cities to be addressed: The community, critical thinking and creativity.
