City and congress

… and what if there were 500 of us?

A project to know "who we are" and "how we are" in Granollers

What would Granollers be like if we represented its people? 65,346 inhabitants across 500 neighbors? How many men and women would there be in each neighborhood? Where would they have been born and what education would they have?

With these questions is how the project “What if there were 500 of us…” To answer them we commissioned a mathematician from the City Council to make the calculations for each of the neighborhoods of the city. Now we know, for example, how many women born in Andalusia and with higher education we would have in the Hostal neighborhood. And so, with all the remainder.

But we haven't stopped there. With the help of neighborhood and citizen associations, we are locating these people to invite them to make a photography. It will be the image of the 500 granollerins and granollerines, scheduled for April 11th at Sports Palace, the same space where the International Congress of Educating Cities will be held from May 26 to 29, 2026.

The project “What if we were 500…” will not end here. The meeting will be used to generate group dynamics that allow them to experiment on a key question: Who are we? What is our city like?

All of this to discover the great number of views that there are in Granollers. All different and plurals, but also with many things in common.

Thus, beyond photography, which will have its obvious leading role within the Congress, this project will also be used to generate conversations that perhaps would never have happened. Dialogues between different people. At a time when we need to get out of our bubble, now more than ever.

“What if we were 500…” is intended to be the starting point for creating a meeting point between diverse people. Because only by losing the fear of what is different can we create community.

Example sheet

Here we have the file referring to the 2,575 women who live in Sota el Camí Ral neighborhood. For the “What if we were 500…” project, 20 women from this neighborhood will be needed. One, for example, will have to have born in Morocco, be between 15 and 19 years old and have primary and secondary education.

Another must be between 40 and 44 years old, born in Catalonia and with a higher academic degree. A woman of’Andalusian origin between 85 and 89 years old who has not completed primary school.
