The XVIII International Congress of Educating Cities held its first working day on Wednesday, 27th May. The 500 delegates began the day with the celebration of the General Assembly of the International Association of Educating Cities.

Two presentations followed. The first was delivered by Philippe Meirieu and Marina Garcés, entitled "The Cities That Teach Us to Think". The second was presented by Souleyman Bachir and Eliane Brum, under the title "The Voices That Make a City".

The day also served to follow the presentation of about sixty educational experiences from different cities. These presentations have been made through workshops and direct dialogues. In the afternoon, there was still time for the delegates to undertake different study visits to learn about educational projects in the city of Granollers.
